Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 27, 2026

Candelio is an app for keeping track of birthdays and other important dates, and reminding you when they're coming up. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it's stored, and who it's shared with. Candelio has no servers of its own: there is no database run by us where your birthdays are stored.

In short: the data you enter (names, dates, notes) stays on your phone and, if you turn on backup, in your own Google Drive account. It never reaches any server of ours, because we don't have one, and it's never shared with ads.

1. Data you store in the app

When you add a birthday or other date, you can enter: name, day, month, year (optional), relationship, and notes. This data:

2. Google Drive backup

If you turn on backup, the app stores a single file (birthdays.json) in the app's hidden data folder inside your own Google Drive account (the drive.appdata scope). That folder:

You can also manually export and import a JSON file with your data, and Android may include the app in its automatic system backup.

3. Advertising

The free version of Candelio shows a banner ad only on the home screen, via Google AdMob. Before showing any ad in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's consent form (UMP).

For more on how Google handles this data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

4. Pro purchase

The one-time "Candelio Pro" purchase is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Candelio never receives or stores payment data: it only asks Google whether your account already owns the product, to disable ads and unlock Pro features.

5. Permissions the app requests

6. Who your data is shared with

We don't sell or share your birthdays with anyone. The only third parties involved are:

7. How long data is kept

Your data stays on your device and, if you enabled backup, in your Drive, until you delete it. Uninstalling the app removes the local data; a Drive backup (if any) stays in your account until you delete it from the app or directly in your Google Drive.

8. Your rights

Since all your data stays under your direct control, you can at any time:

9. Children

Candelio is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data about children beyond what an adult chooses to enter about them (for example, a child's birthday), which is handled the same as any other data described here: it stays on the device and, if enabled, in the user's own Drive.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date on this page and, for significant changes, note it inside the app as well.

11. Contact

If you have any questions about this policy or your data, write to hola@candelio.app.
